Varsity took on PCL opponent Roman Catholic in its second game of the season Friday night and came away with its second straight victory to open the season.
East started the game shorthanded having 5 regular starters missing from the roster. Junior swing player Joe Willis was asked to step into the lineup and that moved paid off early with Joe scoring his first varsity goal on a really nice feed from Senior Alystair Hemberger to give east the lead 1-0.
Fellow Senior Matt Sano followed that up 30 seconds later scoring his second goal of the season to the extend the lead to 2-0 through one period. This was Matt’s second goal in as many games and he has already surpassed his goal total from last season.
Sophomore Jack Wolf scored with 5 minutes remaining in the second period on the power play to extend the lead to 3-0.
Roman Catholic would go on the power play less than a minute later and scored to cut the lead to 3-1 after two periods. The third period was back and forth seeing both teams with opportunities until Roman struck again for its second goal with ten minutes remaining in the game to cut the lead to one.
The score of the game remained 3-2 with Junior Giacomo DeCola coming up big with a few key saves until Jack Wolf scored on an empty net to give East a hard fought 4-2 victory over Roman Catholic. Giacomo DeCola in his first start of the season made 16 saves.
East will open its Chest-Mont schedule this Friday night 11/12 against Unionville at 8:00 pm at Ice Line.
